Forklift Maintenance Checklist

To ensure that your forklift is safe from malfunction and that all your components are operating correctly it is important to do regular performance checks. You can avoid costly replacement fees by doing regular forklift check ups. Here are a few practices that will keep your forklift on the floor and out of the shop.

Internal Combustion Forklifts

Regularly check your coolant, brake, and oil levels.
Make sure you have the proper leveling for your parking breaks.
Replace your spark plugs if they are worn out or faulty.
Ensure that your mast is always well lubricated.
Leaking tilt cylinders must be replaced.
Replace tires if your tire condition has been worn to the minimum levels.
Test your carburetor for proper working condition.
Examine the condition of your exhaust pipe and muffler.
Spray compressed air to clean out your radiator and truck.
Grease fittings must maintain lubrication.
Examine that your break pedal linkage is properly adjusted.
Leaking hydraulic hoses must be replaced.
Ensure that your fan drives are not loose.
Test the charge of your battery and wash your battery terminals with the proper solution.

Electric Forklifts

Spray compressed air to dust off machine.
Degrease nuts and bolts, then lubricate.
Degrease and wash out the sump filter cap.
Inspect oil, brake, and water fluid levels.
Examine the air connecting shaft.
Test your power steering, and adjust your alignment for proper operation.
If your oil levels are low, refill your oil.
If your lift and tilt cylinders are leaking, replace them.
Examine the pedals of your brake. If they are not aligned properly, have them inspected.
Check the levels of your battery power and water.
Examine battery holders.
Test switches.
Test the ends of the tilt cylinder rods.
Test your test point voltage.
Adjust your maximum current limitation to its proper setting.
Adjust your starting current to its proper setting.
Examine the condition of your tires.
